What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?
The video of Laura creating the big blue painting that became a dress. It just looked like so much fun and also deeply moving.
How would you describe your creative process?
For this journey, I enjoyed the preparation process of setting intention and writing the little story. I chose to do a full body map. I did not have a buddy to help me, so I drew around myself. I look a lot different on paper, I can tell you that. The Sharpie left big lines on my arms and legs, so I gave myself a body painting in the process. This was one of my favorite aspects of the journey. I wore it proudly all day. This is the biggest piece I’ve created and I found it physically demanding, lots of bending and crawling and stretching and reaching. Once I finished the basic painting, I felt done for the day. It’s supposed to be me as a phoenix, but it also looks a bit like a devil. I’m not sure it’s finished and I’m not sure I like it. I will need to sit with it for a day or two.
What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?
My original intention was full of adjectives that I would consider soft and gentle. What my Soul Art revealed was power, intensity, and movement. I feel intimidated by it, but it also gave me the message to lighten up. I am sure over the next few days, the fullness of the message will become clearer.
What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?
I received a new perspective on myself. I think of myself as small and gentle, but my art says I’m big and powerful. This is something for me to step into.
