What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?
Whitney Freya, who is a creativity teacher I’ve taken online classes from and with, invited her list to the Soul Art Day wherein she was one of the featured artists. It sounded intriguing and I love the opportunity to exercise & extend my capacities with a challenge and a prompt, and also being in the energetic space to create with others in a certain timeframe!
How would you describe your creative process?
I keep a daily time of creativity in the dark early mornings to devote to visual art. I either work according to a prompt, or to one of my own ideas. Once I’ve got that going it becomes a process of bringing something through, and evolving it, often problem-solving it until I absolutely love it and it expresses what I want.
What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?
I was surprised and amazed by the thunderous and fiery quality that came through when I free-wrote to join the words and the symbols. I integrated the symbols I saw in my mind’s eye in our visualization process into the composition ~ they are pretty directly taken from the sketches in my notebook and the body part I traced was my throat. Originally it was my upper chest (heart) I meant to trace but I was feeling the most ‘presence’ in my throat so I traced that which included my facial profile.
What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?
That art is a unique and irreplaceable expression of ourselves. In a time when we are confronted with the rising new god of AI and what people feel as the threat of it to creative fields, it’s increasingly important for humans to know that the rawness of our art is something that reflects our own soul and as that is something that can never be touched or tarnished. Our ‘imperfection’ *is* our power and our inner strength. Creating in community like this, in real time, is an ancient practice and one that affirms and consolidates our being.
