What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?
I’ve experienced art as an expression of my soul since I was a young woman. When I heard of Laura’s work early in 2012, I had to check it out. I am now a certified Soul Art guide, and know the power of connecting with spirit through art in this way. This year, I’ve been deep in grief after my Mom’s passing, looking for what is next in my life after years of caring for her until she left this world. A new home, community, new way of life, new priorities, new needs for companionship, purpose, and fulfillment were all part of my motivation for this year’s journey.
How would you describe your creative process?
Meandering. I came into this journey utterly and deeply exhausted. I am usually a focused person who accomplishes a great deal, plans well, and is prepared. But this journey was different. I was listening, and guidance came very delicately, a little at a time. I tried to make decisions about what my materials would be, but I just couldn’t force the choices. Yet everything came into place, a piece at a time, with gentleness and a vast amount of rest and quiet time. So I would say listening, accepting, cooperating, and trust were at the core of my experience this time.
What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?
This is taking time. There’s more mystery here for now than clarity, yet the guidance I believe came from the process itself, as described above. Listen, cooperate, and trust…and rest, take it easy, a lot. Several key light-up moments so far are that my mission or purpose in this life may not be as project/accomplishment oriented as I was looking for, but more about holding Light, beauty, and grace energies in this world that I love. The morning after SOUl Art Day, I was sitting with my piece, contemplating it, and realized that it was not yet grounded. I traced my feet walking steadily “upward” toward the beautiful feminine energy of the figure holding the Light. My affirmation also leads directly to this figure. More will come of this piece with time.
What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?
That it is absolutely beautiful and wide-ranging, just like we are as multi-dimensional human beings. It can be fun, silly, intense, gentle, profound, and so much more. It’s also very simple, and a beautiful way of developing self-trust, self-understanding, acceptance, freedom, learning, and expansion. Each step is important and works together into a learning experience that supports us in whatever we are giving our focus and attention to. So be sure to focus on your highest and best, always for the highest good…because you never know, Spirit may have something different and even better for you than you could even imagine.
