What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?
It’s become one of my favorite annual traditions to participate in International Soul Art Day. What a wonderful blessing that it’s in its 12th. year! A testament to all the love and dedication Laura Hollick & Kevin Thom has poured into our beloved art community. I haven’t painted in a while due to my preoccupation with design school and immersion in fiber arts (knitting & crochet) so wanted to reconnect to my art. Soul Art is always engaging and healing.
How would you describe your creative process?
This year I simply freed my mind of other thoughts and cleared my workspace as usual. I even added another table so I could have more space for all my supplies. I love that with mixed media, there’s an unknown and therefore an excitement of what I will find to incorporate into my art. There are unexpected treasures waiting to be found. I allowed my imagination to play and dance; for my inner child to luxuriate in this day.
What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?
That I’m happiest when I make time for daily creativity. I have another shamanic journey waiting in the wings to show me what that key on the upper right unlocks. I don’t normally do much spiritual ancestry work but I feel it calling to me within these past few years. It’s an invitation to connect to my roots.
My mixed media piece this year is called “Awakenings: The Sand Path.” It is the Part 1 to the artwork I created for last year’s International Soul Art Day, entitled “Ancestors.”
What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?
Unburden yourself of any judgement, to dos, and just have fun. For creatives like Soul Artists, art is just as essential as the air we breathe so try your best to always carve out some time for it. The universe communicates with us through Soul Art. I’ve realized that it’s especially vital when we are experiencing some turbulence in our lives and in need of some grounding, healing, nourishment.
