Heather’s Soul Art Day Interview

When did you know you were an artist?

I heard the whisper of art calling to my soul at an early age. I recently came across a photo of my childhood bedroom where I had a giant carousel of crayons on my desk with different drawings I had completed. I can still remember the smell of the fingerpaints we would use in kindergarten – it was such a sensory experience! In college, when I struggled with traditional classes, my time in the art studio or out in nature with charcoal and a sketchpad were the times when I felt most comfortable. Stepping into the fullness of artistic expression happened a little later in life for me, but She’s always been there, beckoning me to connect.

How do you create space to work on your art?

I’m someone who feels most creative when everything else around me is organized and calm, so to create physical space, I will do the mundane tasks of cleaning, putting away laundry and organizing my studio (often to then let it find its magical chaos again during creation). I think creating energetic space is equally important and for me, that looks like keeping all the proverbial trains moving with tons of to-do lists and calendar obligations that are running on time.

Why do you make art?

The simplest answer for why I make art is that it helps to fully express different aspects of me. The creative journey of artistic expression unlocks creativity in other areas of my life and helps me to keep a light and playful approach to Life. With my intuitive art, I am deeply committed to helping others see the sacred beauty of their Souls and it’s an honor to share that reflection with others and help them on their journey of discovery.
