Ania’s Soul Art Day Interview

What does it mean to be an artist to you?

To me, being an artist isn’t about having technical skills or a formal background. It’s about allowing yourself to express what’s within. At Not The Creative Kind, I believe everyone has a creative spark, even (and especially) those who’ve been told they’re not “artistic.”

Being an artist means being curious. It means making space to explore, play, and feel without needing a perfect outcome. It’s a practice of listening to yourself and sharing something real, whether that’s with paint, words, movement, or color.

Art is how we connect to who we are and to each other. I believe we are all artists at heart we’ve just forgotten. It’s time to reclaim creativity as a human right, not a rare talent. To be an artist is simply to be someone who dares to express, someone who follows curiosity rather than conformity.

How do you create space to work on your art?

For me, creating space for art is both practical and emotional. I schedule time for it just like I would for work or movement because creativity deserves intention. But it’s more than time. I create an atmosphere where I feel safe, free, and expressive. That means surrounding myself with inspiration, soft lighting, music, or even silence—whatever helps me connect inward.

I also honor my creative rhythms. I go through phases some more active, others more reflective and I’ve learned to respect that flow rather than force it.

Community plays a big role too. I organize creative groups and workshops where making art becomes less intimidating and more playful. It’s in these shared moments of expression that I feel most connected not only to art, but to myself and others.

What do you love about your art?

I love how imperfect and playful it is. How it frees me from pressure and lets me just be. It’s not serious, and that’s the magic. It brings more joy, depth, and connection into my life and it helps me connect with others in the most real and human way.

About Ania Pilch

I’m Ania, founder of Not The Creative Kind -a movement to make creativity more accessible, playful, and essential to everyday life.
I’m not a trained artist, and that’s exactly the point. For a long time, I believed I wasn’t creative until I realized that creativity lives in all of us. Society often tells us we’re either “artistic” or we’re not, but I believe that mindset limits us deeply. Through my work, I create spaces where people feel safe to explore, play, and express themselves without needing to be “good” at art.
Creativity isn’t a luxury or a profession – it’s a human need. I believe we live truer, fuller lives when we embrace all facets of ourselves including the creative ones.
